Because I haven’t had a bad experience with Bosch tools until now, I bought this item a little bit by accident. Bosch has always been one of the best tool brands I’ve used in the past. Bosch is both strong and well-made.

On my first order, I got a planer that looked like it had already been opened. A sticky residue was left behind, and some stains were on the bag. I sent it back and asked for a new one. Sticky residue is also on the plane surface on the second unit. It also looks like it has a few light scratches from being ground down.

There was a lot of sawdust all over my table when I started to plane, and the dust collector stopped working after a few passes. In the bag, there was a lot of loose thread all over (picture). It was like a web, only letting a small amount of shavings into the bag. Clogs quickly. After I cleaned out the bag and cut all the thread out, I got back to work. It took me a minute or two to work with the planer, and while I was cutting, the bag started to fly out of the machine. After a few tries, I think it’s not about how well I’m putting the bag on the planer, but that it doesn’t fit very well. Because of this, my planer now has a few layers of tape wrapped around the planer port to make the OD bigger so it fits better.

The planer surface is clean now that I have wiped it down, cut the bag threads, and taped the output port. It seems to work fine. In the beginning, I had a hard time with the tool and thought it would be a good idea to check the cut accuracy in a few ways. In my opinion, the consistency of the cut depth from the left side to the right side is the most important thing. Then, the depth itself. The depth from left to right was very good, only separating a few thousand ” (0.002″). The depth of cut based on the dial setting was not bad. It ranged from 0.003″ to 0.008″ off the actual dimension. My cutting was 1/16 (or 0.0625″), and I got a cut that was 0.0475..

It wasn’t all bad. There are a few nice features that have been talked about in other reviews (like the lock-off switch and the parking rest). I think the machine is pretty sturdy, and it looks like it can cut pretty well. Powerful: So far, the tool hasn’t left any burn marks. A good surface finish isn’t the best I’ve ever seen, but it’s good enough for what I’m going to use it for (doors, thinning small boards, flattening lathe blanks, etc.). There are some brands that cost less than 50 or 60 dollars, but I’d expect this level of quality from them. This experience has changed my opinion of Bosch tools, and I’ll be doing more thorough reviews before I buy them again.
