While in the hammer mode, the Bosch RH1255VC 2-Inch SDS-max rotary hammer has Turbo Power, which increases the tool’s torque and speed by up to 30%. It also provides 14.1 ft.-lbs. of impact energy, which is sufficient for high-performance. With a weight of less than 27 lbs., it has an excellent performance-to-weight ratio for a 2-inch hammer. I purchased the drill after battling with smaller ones while drilling 3/4 and 7/8 holes in hard rock that were 30 inches deep. It was a beast and did an excellent job, but when a whiff of charred electronics filled the air, the drill’s power and speed were completely lost. It was as if the motor had been slowed down from speed 6 to speed 3, except there was no torque or power to compensate for this. The Harbor Freight drills, as much as I dislike saying it, lasted longer even though they drilled at half the speed. I’m going to take it to their service center, which is about 80 miles away, and see what they have to say about it. I had 12 days left on Amazon’s 30-day return policy when I realized what I’d done. It was purchased on October 7th, 2019, and it died on November 23rd, despite only having been used on weekends. The item appears to be brand new, and after spending $1000 on a tool, I took great care to protect it. I’m disappointed, but I’ll post an update once I’ve dropped it off at the repair facility. I made an effort to purchase the most appropriate tool. I spent as much money as I could afford on this project, and I’m hoping it wasn’t a mistake. Given that it failed just as I was about to begin a six-day stretch of uninterrupted work, the cost of lost time alone will be far greater than the cost of the tool.. precisely what I was attempting to avoid by purchasing high-quality tools in the first place.

Update: The shop determined that there was a problem with the brushes receiving a period of low voltage. It appears that the problem is not with the drill, but with the power supply. At least, that’s what the tec thought. Since then, the gun has operated without incident. According to the service center, the reviews have been updated to reflect that it was not a manufacturer’s issue.
