The Bostitch SX1838K 18GA Narrow Crown Finish Stapler is made for professionals who need to drive 7/32 In. narrow crown staples from 1/2 In. to 1-1/2 In. in length with this tool. This tool, like our other small-body finish tools, is made of lightweight magnesium and has a new, tough industrial look. The oil-free engine doesn’t need to be serviced and doesn’t leave stains on work surfaces. The swivel air fitting with a filtered air inlet makes it easier to move around and improves the engine’s durability. The selectable trigger system makes it easy to switch between sequential and contact modes. It also has a dial-a-depth control for quick countersinking adjustments and a low fastener lockout that stops dry fire and tells you when it’s time to reload. The ultra-quiet rear exhaust moves air away from the user, and the reversible belt hook with an integrated pencil sharpener makes it easy to work on the job site. If you want to finish, trim, soffits and cabinetry and furniture and any other stapling job you can think of, the SX1838K is the tool for the job. The kit comes with a stapler and a sturdy case that you can take with you when you go.

I don’t know why Bostitch markets this tool as using 7/32” crown staples — the metric spec for the tool is “6mm crown” — and 6mm is _between_ 7/32” & 1/4”. And Stanley/Black&Decker (Bostitch’s parent company) sells variations of this same tool under their PorterCable and DeWalt brands as “1/4” crown” staplers. Marketing.

Works absolutely fine with non-Bostitch 1/4″ crown staples.

I like this tool. It’s well balanced, comfortable to use, drives consistently in a variety of materials, is easy to load, easy to place the staples where I want them. The whole nose opens when you load it — so clearing jams is completely tool-less. I haven’t had any jams. I haven’t been using Bostitch staples.

Good warranty, and there are replacement parts & rebuild kits available. Unlike for cheap, disposable tools.

Quibbles are that it no longer comes with a swivel air fitting (just a straight one), and the standard Bostitch hard case it comes in (not a soft one as described) has no place to hold even a small package of staples. Doesn’t come with any staples either.

Still I’ve been happy with other Bostitch air tools and I’d buy it again.
