You really don’t want to twist the piston once you have it seated in the cylinder, so get the alignment as close as possible before you push the piston in. Repeat the process for the remaining ring and then you can move on to attaching the piston to the piston rod. Then slide the piston and cylinder into place so that the inside of the roller bearing and the hole in the bottom of the piston line up.
The new cylinder was the newer type with the compression release. Dismantling the saw to expose the cylinder, I discover all the machine screws are Torx headed. Not a good thing to have in a new cylinder and piston.

Putting a cheap rebuild kit on a Stihl is kinda dumb in my opinion. Your better off just buying a complete china saw on ebay and beat the crap out of that.
Since all chain movement starts at the drive sprocket, check it first for chainsaw repair. Shut off the motor, let the chain cool and then re-tension the chain for your chainsaw repair. Buying the right chain is more complicated than you might think in chainsaw repair.
