The Chicago Pneumatic 749 1/2-Inch Super Duty Impact Wrench is equipped with an oil bath “Spring Hammer” clutch mechanism, which provides continuous lubrication, increased durability, and reduced vibration over the life of the tool. I looked at a lot of impact wrenches before settling on this particular model. It has a lot of power, but not so much that you’d be breaking bolts with it on your belt. In my opinion, in order to receive something, you must first give something. When you want extreme torque, you have to sacrifice durability. The materials and construction of the CP749 are of high quality, and I anticipate it to last as long as my 20-year-old CP734 (which still works great). I only purchased this wrench because I required more torque to tighten larger bolts. The best feature is that you can change from forward to reverse without having to let go of the steering wheel or using the other hand (i.e. working a rusted bolt back and forth while holding a hand wrench on the other side). The variable power selector for forward works well, but I wish it could also be used for reverse, which would be ideal. The only way to regulate reverse power is with your trigger finger or the pressure in the air supply line. Check to see that your air compressor, air hose, and couplers are all large enough to accommodate this firearm.
