The first impressions I have of this drill are extremely positive. As a welder/fabricator, I’ve been using it to drill through mild and hardened steel with twist bits and hole saws for the past few years. At first, I purchased the CP 9789 and quickly discovered that it lacked the necessary torque for a variety of steel drilling applications. Furthermore, the trigger on that drill was essentially on/off, with the on setting being 800 RPM. Designed in Japan, it features a decent keyed Jacobs chuck, an excellent trigger, and is comfortable to hold and shoot with. During standard drilling operations, it is much more durable and resistant to stalling out than it was previously. So far, the side handle has been my only source of dissatisfaction. It appears that you will have to remove the chuck in order to get the collar off. An allen key is required to tighten it. Please keep in mind that the drill was shipped with the chuck removed. For the LH retaining screw, you’ll need a torx T25 screwdriver. The thread on the spindle is 3/8-24.
