Hi,. I need to cut down a new piece of laminate worktop, I have a circular saw but it still has the original blade so won’t be that sharp. I want to get a new blade but probably won’t use the saw again for years and not for anything I need a fine cut on, so I don’t want to spend a lot on a blade as it won’t be worth it.

I need to make a few straight edge cuts in my Axiom laminate worktop and was planning on using my Circular saw. The blade hasnt been used too much, but has been in the shed for ages and could do with replacing. On the side of the circular saw it says the blade used is 185mm x 16mm bore.

Cut the sink hole with the jigsaw – it will wander a bit but that doesn’t matter and don’t forget to seal the cut edge – I use silicon. For the worktop ends, as others have said, it helps to cut the bulk off first with a hand saw or even the jig saw, and then finish off taking a few mm with the router against a straight edge – makes the routing far easier and saves the cutter. Always cut into the laminate front edge so you don’t get breakaway.
