When it comes to finishing nails, the Bostitch DA1564K Angled Finish Nailer Kit is the world’s first 15ga tool with an ultra-quiet rear exhaust that directs air away from the user, according to the manufacturer. This unit is equipped with an integrated air blower that allows the user to clear debris from the work surface. For working in closets and dark spaces, it includes an LED work light and an adjustable trigger with a safety lock-out that allows the user to choose between single and multiple fastener drive modes. For quick and easy baseboard installation, the 16-inch on-center gauge can be flipped out and used as a guide. Additionally, oil-free operation, a rear trip design for clear line of sight, and dial-a-depth adjustment for precise fastener placement are all available options for this model. A tool, a carrying case, 1,000 2-inch fasteners, two standard no-mar tips, four profile no-mar tips, a Swivel Air Fitting, steel belt hook, and a hex wrench are all included in the kit. It is capable of driving 15GA “DA” Style Angled Finish Nails and comes with a 7-year warranty.

For several years, the tool has been in perfect working order. I’ve never had a nail jam or a fastener that wasn’t properly driven. It failed when it was brand new (on the first day). The factory service center was able to fix it in more than two weeks. (Well, so much for the convenience of having a local service center. I should have gotten a reconditioned tool instead of buying a new one. The fact that tools are now almost always made offshore (you know where..) and not always tested as they roll off the assembly line always works out better for me in the long run.

My favorite characteristics are as follows. Depth-of-Drive can be adjusted on the fly. Dusting with an air duster. And, of course, there’s the Pencil Sharpener. (It’s one less thing to carry around in your pocket or one less thing to drop off a ladder only to land exactly where you want it. If you add a flashlight and a mini-fridge to this tool, you have yourself the Swiss Army Knife of nailing tools.

There are two major issues.

Stanley Black & Decker (which owns Bostitch and other brands) has a habit of making tool parts obsolete very quickly. There are no longer any parts available for a brad nailer that I own that is eight years old. As a result, if this tool model remains unchanged for several years, parts will be available for a longer period of time. I took a chance on this nailer because of its features and low price, and I will miss it when it breaks down and I can’t get replacement parts. In addition, factory service takes an inordinate amount of time (I’m estimating several months).

Would I buy this again if it were to disappear and I needed a replacement. Absolutely. (However, it will most likely be refurbished or purchased locally so that I can return it quickly if it is defective.)
