I’m not sure how these saws really compare head to head but if the Delta is a markedly better saw I think I could upgrade and not be out too much. The Jet 14″ saws and the various Delta models have all rated similar in recent woodworking mag reviews, in fact the last one I have with 14″ reviews picked the Jet above the Delta. 06-19-2010, 8:26 PM #8 Don’t know about Jet but I have a Delta band saw that needs a few parts but Delta no longer sells parts for my saw so I have stopped buying any Delta products that are not made in the good old USA. A couple years back I bought a Delta Platinum Edition Contractors saw, with a 30″ Unifence, and love it. Before I found a great deal on a used Jet with a Vega 52″ Utility fence a few other items, I was buying a Jet CS saw. As far as the Delta saws, the Biesmeyer fence is miles above the Unirip fence as far as quality.
They’re extremely familiar with both the Laguna ceramic guides and the Rikon guides and prefer Rikon’s. The Rikon fence has an innovative dial to easily adjust it’s parallel-ness with the blade-which again no other saw in this class has. 1) Rikon 326.: Top guides and many features not found on other saws, good fence.
I think the new ones are not built like the old ones and when I compare them to the other saws on the market at the same price point they just don’t match up in build quality to me. With my money I would buy a grizzly and run with the savings over the delta. In the interest of full disclosure I also prefer a Milwaukee palm grip router base over over the sacred D handle porter cable, so I may just be a super weirdo.
