Three speeds and an all-metal high performance transmission make the power drill perfect for the job at hand. This means it can be used quickly and run longer.

Brushless motor: DEWALT’s 20V MAX drill has more power than a brushed motor, which means it can run for up to 57% longer than one with a brushed motor.

3-Mod. LED lights come with the Dewalt drill so that you can work in dark or small places up to 20 times brighter than before.

LED Spotlight Mode has a 20-minute shut-off feature that lets you keep working in dark or small places for longer.

In this tool, there are carbide inserts in the 1/2-inch metal chuck that make it strong enough to hold the bits in place.

The style is a drill/driver kit.

An electric drill and driver, two 20V MAX* 5.0Ah battery packs, the charger, and an extra case are all included in this kit. This cordless drill comes with a battery and charger. It has a 3-speed transmission to help speed up the job and a 1/2-inch ratcheting nitro-carburized metal chuck for better bit gripping strength. LED spotlight mode has a 20-minute shut-off feature, so you can keep working in dark or small places for longer.

For years, I have used two DeWalt 3-speed driver and hammer drills that I bought at a hardware store. Also, I have two high-end Milwaukee 18v drills and two Makita 18v drills that I use all the time, as well. In order to check the drill, I opened the case and looked at the battery. It was loose. This is how it went: I tried the second battery and it didn’t work, either. Having a battery pack that moves around is annoying and a flaw in the way it was made. In order to get the battery packs to fit snugly, I was able to put two pieces of plastic electrical tape on each side of the battery packs (not needed with Milwaukee, Makita, or even Black & Decker batteries that slide in like this).

Having three usable speeds with the gearing provided by DeWalt makes a huge difference in how well the tool works. I use the middle speed setting with the Hole Pro Blue Boar 4 to 6 inch Mega TCT hole cutters to cut through subfloors that are at least 1 inch thick. It works great. With Makita, Rigid, Bosch, Milwaukee, or Panasonic drills I own, I would have to go to the low speed setting, which would hurt performance and make cutting not as smooth as it would be with other drills.

What may seem like a small thing, but the DeWalt second handle can be attached at any angle, just like the Makita handles and not like the ones on Milwaukee hand drills. I often want the second handle to keep the drill steady, but I don’t always want it to be at a 90-degree angle because space is often at a premium. With this kit, the handle that comes with DeWalt isn’t very well made, but at least DeWalt put it in a special place in the case.

You can still use this drill even though it has a battery pack that has 5 AH of power. There are half-size battery packs that have only 1/3 the charge life and cut the power of the drill motor by more than 50%. This is close to what you get with them. It is the lightest heavy-duty drill I have ever used, and it does a good job.

Some of the drills I own and have tried with a wide range of hole cutters also have tight chucks that don’t come loose when there is vibration while drilling. Only the DeWalt and Bosch drills have chucks that don’t come loose when there is vibration while drilling (as when drilling into stucco with a Blue Boar stucco hole cutter or plywood with any hole cutter). In fact, the ratchet chuck mechanism works so well with the DeWalt pro grade cordless drills that the first five or six times I use a new drill, I’ll have to use channel lock pliers to loosen the chuck with channel lock pliers. For not having drill bits fall out of the chuck while you’re drilling, this is a small price to pay. This is especially true when you’re working on a ladder.

This drill has an LED light that can be turned on and off in three ways. This means that one is very high, the other is medium, and a third keeps the light on for 20 minutes. This is very useful to have these three options.

On the back of the battery pack, there are three LED lights that show how much charge is left. It’s nice to know how much charge is left so that you don’t have to go back and do it again.

In general, DeWalt tools have the worst cases out of all the power tool companies. This isn’t the case with the carry case, though. My 18V drill cases are a third smaller than this one’s case. It has places to put the extra battery, charger, and side handle. The places are clear about what goes where. It may seem like a small thing, but I have Makita drill cases where it takes a lot of guesswork to get everything back inside with tools I use less often.

On the No. 1 setting for screws, there is enough torque to break the fastener before the clutch slips. This is one caveat. There are times when it is better to finish driving the screws or nuts by hand.
