After about the sixth or seventh time I used my hammer drill, it stopped working completely. I don’t use a hammer drill all that often, but when I do, it’s nice to have one on hand to use.

I got in touch with DeWalt customer service, which was extremely pleasant and helpful. They emailed me a return label, which I used. From my office, I printed out this document and shipped it to the recipient. Every day, I see a large number of shipments.

After a few days, I received a phone call from the warranty department. The young lady who answered the phone informed me that the package had been delivered. She went on to tell me that it would cost $75 for them to repair the hammer drill. I was shocked to hear this. I mentioned that this drill comes with a three-year limited warranty. Since purchasing this drill, I’ve only used it a total of 6 or 7 times. I questioned her as to how it was possible that it was not a factory defect. I then proceeded to inquire as to what exactly was wrong with the drill. She informed me that she was unable to provide me with that information. I asked her to return the drill to me, and she agreed.

When I received the drill back, I double-checked the tamper stickers that had been placed on the drill. They were all still in their original positions, and the drill had not even been disassembled for inspection.

It’s difficult to understand how the warranty center could tell me that this was not a factory defect when they didn’t even inspect the drill.

The tamper-resistant sticker shown above is located under the battery, and the mark in the corner is the one I placed on it to determine whether or not they had opened the drill.

I will not be purchasing any more of this brand, or any of the other brands that they have available for purchase. I’m willing to pay a premium for the brand name because I believe they stand behind their products. I’ve purchased a large number of products from this company. This is strictly for my personal use. I’ve purchased between two and three hundred times this amount for the company for which I work.

If this is how warranty services are provided, I will not be purchasing any more items for myself or for my company in the future.
