I was not sure if I should buy this fence until I found a review that talked about my router. In the answers to the questions, there are a lot of different answers, and some of them are very wrong. So I’m writing this to try to clear up some confusion for other people.

This is a review of the DW6913 Parallel Fence by DeWALT.

People were happy with how quickly the item came and how well it was packaged.

A home-made jig is why I bought this adjustable fence. A fence is attached to the plunge base so that the router can register against a guide block. Before, all fence adjustments were done by eyeball and were a little bit iffy.

Those who use dewalt routers need to keep in mind that this unit is only for them. If this review helps other people figure out if their router will work with this, that’s good.

The instructions are very simple and only talk about attaching the fence to the base. They do say that the rods are 8mm and 10mm. Dewalt dw610 bases have threads on the 8mm rods that can be used to mount the unit. The rods don’t fit together. In this case, the 10mm tubes are just tubes that don’t have any other functions. The 8mm rods are 280mm long, plus the threads. The 10mm rods are 380mm long. The length of the rods could allow for some extra fence depth.

Fence, rods, dust reducer, extra wingnuts, springs, and more are all in the box. The fence is already put together.

I did some measuring to figure out what was going on. It looks like the threads are M6 with a nice tpi of 1mm. So each turn of the dial moves the fence 1mm, and each mark on the dial is worth 0.1mm (just shy of 0.004″).

The fence can only move as far as the locking slot in the aluminum bracket. At one point, this bracket screws into the stamped sheet metal fence support. The total movement is 15mm. There are a lot of markings on the stamping, both in mm and inches, so you can tell what it is.

When the rods are put in, they spread out in two different ways between the centers. The positions are on either side of the wingnuts that are supposed to keep them in place. It looks like the spreads were made in sae because they measure 3.25″ and 4.0″.

The dust collector can be taken out. It looks like it only works if you are routing on the edge. Maybe it would give more control but it would take a long time to change than if you used a bit with a bearing.

The fence pads can be moved apart so that cutting can be done on the edges.

My jig in the first picture is set up. The second picture shows two 1/4″ end mills that have been tapped. For fun, the lower mark was put off center. Because it was off center by about 5/32 inches, I moved the fence just over 4 turns. Because it moved about 4.2mm, I hit the center line as close as I need it to be for making mortises. One measurement and one adjustment is great.

In the next move, I don’t pay attention to the backlash. Third picture shows this new touch and the one that’s in the middle. It’s hard to say for sure, but I don’t think there would be any backlash at all. People should always move in the same direction.

It looks like this fence will do just what I want it to. You can use it with your Makita RT0701C, and because you know how far the fence moves per turn of the dial, and because it moves that far, making adjustments will be much easier and more accurate.

You should use this fence if the rods and spreads work with your base.
