This was delivered just a few days ago. I attempted to install it today, but was unsuccessful. Everything about the spring is the proper size, including the diameter, width, and length. Furthermore, it is a perfect fit for the retaining cap. However, when I tried to wind it up so that the quill/chuck would automatically come up after drilling, the inner bend of the bolt jumped out of the slot in the bolt and broke. It’s not difficult to see why after a closer look. There are two reasons for this. 1. The bend that fits into the slot is only about 6.5 – 7mm in length, which is extremely short. That same bend is between 12 and 13mm in diameter in the original part.. the one that broke. That’s a difference of approximately 5 mm. One-fifth of a centimeter. 2. The second difference is that the bend on the original part is much tighter than it is on the replica. This spring, it was more open, and as a result, it was more prone to slipping out of place. So, what did I do to correct the situation, given that I require my drill press immediately, rather than in a few weeks. I used a pair of needlenose pliers to try to straighten out the bend as much as I possibly could. It works, but I’m not confident in it. In addition, I’d like to have it turned up a few more notches, but I’m not confident enough in my fix to do so right now.
