This drill is made for drilling through metal, and it can make holes up to 1-5/8″ in diameter through 2” thick material.
My second evolution tool and I’m very happy with it, so I have to say this is good. It’s because of two things. The first thing is that the storage box had broken hinges when it came to us. I asked Amazon to send me another, but it was the same thing, so I gave up trying to get it fixed and gave up. As a bonus, all the stickers and labels are peeling off before I’ve even used it for the first time.
In order to drill into anything less than 3/8 of an inch, you’ll need to clamp the tool down in the front. With any mag drill, I think this will be the same. To get that 2800 pounds of force, they need something like 1/2 inch plate. A 2.5-inch drill bit worked great for drilling 1/8-inch tubes. So I used drill oil and took my time, but it worked out fine. I wouldn’t go any bigger because that’s already very close to not having enough space for chips to be cleaned. Another problem is that the stroke is only 2 inches or so. You can drill the 2 inches and move the whole thing down so you can get more depth. For the price, it’s a good drill.
