Because I was new to faceting, I didn’t want to spend thousands of dollars, and I figured a starter machine would be the best bet. My many years of experience with Amazon led me to believe that the machine, despite its bare bones, would arrive in the condition depicted.
1. As soon as I put the machine in the cart, photo 1 of the machine changed to photo 2. Upon closer inspection, I concluded that it was most likely a design upgrade, and that the photo appeared to meet requirements. That is not the case.
2. Photo 3. The base is made of thin balsa-type wood, and the metal top is covered with burrs that are jagged and coarsely cut. When you put it together, you can see the flaws: the bowl leaks and is unevenly cut, the armature is too large for the base and is significantly larger than the sales photo. While moving the slide arm, it wobbles to one side due to a groove that was cut for it that was too large for the bolt to fit through.
It is impossible to facet a girdle, which means that the armature must be parallel to the base, as shown in Photo 4. Sorry for not showing the cheap oxidized dos, but it wouldn’t make a difference because there is no way to completely facet a stone in the first place.
