In the end, I got tired of using a cheap multi tool from the big orange home center. I started looking into the best new models. A fein multimaster I used about 10 years ago was great but at the time it cost $600 and it was hard to find blades. I ended up with a cheap tool from the homeless death spot because it was noisy and used cheap blades. Newer Fein models have come down in price a lot, which made me decide to buy this one. It has a great starlock system for attaching blades, which I love. I have used it to cut out 2x4s around windows on a remodel job, cut siding nails flush on the inside of the sheathing, grind grout out of an 8×10 tile bathroom with a carbide blade, cut johni bolts, and more. It has done a great job.

There is an elephant in the room, so let’s kill it and move on to the costs. The multimaster is a little pricey, but the quality of the tool more than makes up for the cost. The blades are ridiculous and you can’t use knock-offs at this point. The blades made by fein and bosch are much better than the chinese blades, so buy the good ones and they last a lot longer anyway.
If it had a built-in LED like some of its competitors, I’d be very happy with it.
– at least for this kit, I think it should come with a dust collector because of the price. There is a lot of dust when you cut drywall and grind grout, and it would be nice to have that come with the multitool, not just the most expensive one. This is what people say.
– Even though it makes the cord more durable, having the anti-bend point at the end of the handle makes it 4″ longer, which makes it more difficult to reach in some situations.
Overall. Most people think this multimaster is the most well-rounded multitool on the market, but it isn’t sure. Buy a high-quality tool for a little more money. Even though the starlock forces you to buy expensive blades, the expensive blades in my experience last longer and cut better.
