Over the course of many years, I’ve used both the original and the Holemaker 2 models, and the Holemaker 3 is a significant improvement. As a result of its lighter weight, smaller footprint, and stronger magnet, it is a superior drill for on-site work. There may be some difficulty fitting into tight spaces because the new model is taller than previous models, but this is an uncommon occurrence. The drill comes with storage areas for allen keys, which are required for removing bits and performing general maintenance. This is a convenient feature. The case has been thoughtfully designed and is a good fit for the drill. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this tool. Two minor issues I’ve discovered are: 1) the magnetic base, while powerful, is much more temperamental than I expected. When the magnetic bond is not strong enough, it will not engage the drive, even on a surface where the old Holemaker 2 would have no problems. This happens occasionally. 2) The valve that regulates the flow of lubricant from the reservoir is made of plastic and has a cheap feel to it. After only a few uses, the cutting fluid began to leak. Instead, a metal valve, such as the one found on the Holemaker 2, should be used. With the exception of those two minor quibbles, I’m extremely pleased with my purchase.
