Splinter guards are simple to install on both the TS 55 and TS 75 Plunge Cut Saws, and they provide excellent protection.
The TS 55 and TS 75 EQ are incompatible with each other.
Cuts on both sides of the blade can be made without splinters by utilizing the off-cut side splinter guard in conjunction with the integrated guide rail splinter guard on the blade. When switching between different kerf blades, make sure to replace the Splinter guard for the best results. Splinter guards are simple to install on the TS 55 REQ. This set contains 5 Splinter guards as well as 1 replacement thumbscrew. It should be noted that this product is not compatible with the TS 55 EQ or the TS 75 EQ, which are both available as product #49173.
Because the Festool track saw product is designed to require these consumables, I am a little miffed that Festool’s usual advantage is superior design to reduce excessive excessive tool management on the jobsite, rather than the other way around.
Although I understand that this product is a consumable, and for those of us who are more experienced in the use of tracksaws, we understand that it is possible to reduce the need to replace these guards if you keep one for each depth of cut you make – but as soon as you change your depth of cut and forget to change the guard, you’re done!. That will cost you another splinter guard, no doubt about it.
Dammit.
The zero clearance I built for my cordless circular saw was intended to eliminate the need for a consumable such as this, and it is made of plywood and inexpensive screws – so Festool has no excuse for this one, folks – they simply need to spend a little more money on research and development to find a solution to this issue.
Nonetheless, the product is perfectly suited to the task and is capable of performing its function exceptionally well – nice clean cuts over and over again as long as the darned thing continues to function.
I’ll give it a 5 out of 5 for that.
