You can use this kit with the 3040 Y-Axis Extension Kit for your 3018 CNC to make your base more stable, and it will also be more durable.
This kit comes with an aluminum profile that you can use to extend your 3018 Aluminum Spoilboard to 3040 Aluminum HDF Spoilboard.
A smooth finish on the aluminum base makes it easy to mount spoil boards or jigs.
The Aluminum Base comes with 4 T-Slots on both sides. It’s easy to use. If you have a lot of bench clamping systems, this one is easy to set up and works with most of them, too.
The aluminum base is a good place to build on and add a spoilboard or other special jigs to make it more stable.
I’m not very happy.
MDF felt more like fiber paperboard to me when I bought it, which made me a little nervous. It also made the furniture less stable. They should have used aluminum straps between the extrusion bed, or at least real MDF, instead of the cardboard. If you live in humid Midwestern weather, this will warp in no time at all. Now I’m going to have to make some out of 6061. This is going to add a lot of money.
There are no brackets to use old 20×40 extrusion end to end to raise the gantry, so you can’t do that. This video shows how to put these brackets in, but they don’t come with the extended rails or a bed kit.
I thought I would get a lot more out of owning the 3018ProVer and Aluminum Z axis. Both of them work great.
I would return this and buy parts to make a longer, stronger bed if I hadn’t already opened it. On Amazon, you could make a rigid bed and change the gantry to one that moves freely for the same price.
