At half the price of the Festool Rotex, I can’t say enough good things about this machine. I think it’s great. There is a video on YouTube of a walnut and epoxy serving tray. The point isn’t whether you like to mix epoxy into your wood projects, but it is notoriously much more difficult to sand epoxy properly than hardwoods, so I included it as a point of comparison. You can get very good finish sanding results if you use the right slow movement technique (i.e. 1” per second) and move through the grits properly. Even though it can also hog out material on forced rotation mode in lower grits very well, this unit can also get the job done very well. I think this is as close to an all-in-one sander as you can get for a reasonable price. Using net sandpaper is great because the pad has a lot of both large and small holes. It has two rows of the larger holes (double what you get in a standard big box sander) and a lot of small holes like the more advanced Festool or 3M sandpaper. Finishing sanding, dust extraction, and other categories are all areas where the Mirka Deros Wild might be better than the Bosch. I’m not sure that either of those or any other sander can do all that this one does for the price you pay for the Bosch, though. You can buy your favorite sandpaper brand with the money you save by getting this one instead.

There is so much to like about this machine. It is very good at handling. Turbo mode has more power than you can imagine, but it also makes things look beautiful and be more productive. You can use the regular orbital mode with the coarse grit to get a great surface for Rubio Monocoat on your wood. I used it for the first time, and I quickly smoothed some rough walnut stock with it. Even though I used a cheap shop vac, the dust collection was better than I expected. The only reason I wouldn’t recommend this unit is if your workshop or craft requires the other brand of green button tools. I’m not sure that unit would be better than this one, especially when you consider how much it costs.
10/29/1. From what I can tell from looking at the hole patterns of the first and second generations, the second one has better holes for collecting dust than the first one did. There are a lot of small holes in addition to the bigger ones that universal sanding papers have. There are new sanding nets and improved technology for removing sand paper waste. I think the 2nd generation is better able to take advantage of these things.
