Let me begin by saying that I had been a huge fan of the Grizzly product line up until recently. I have several pieces of Grizzly equipment that I have found to be of high quality, and I anticipate that this one will be no different. I am a 56-year-old retired general contractor who has spent his entire life working with his hands. In terms of common sense and mechanical ability, I’ve been blessed with an abundance of both. It is I who people turn to when they have a mechanical problem that needs to be fixed or that they are unable to figure out. I am rarely in a situation where I am unable to come up with a solution. I purchased this product on May 20th, 2020, and it sat in my possession for a couple of months before I unpacked it with the expectation of putting it together and using it right away. As soon as I opened the package and began to sort through the contents, I quickly realized that the package containing all of the miscellaneous nuts, bolts, screws, and washers was missing. In one week, I had the hardware I needed to begin putting the project together thanks to Grizzly. Once I got started, I quickly realized that aligning all of the various parts in order to make the machine run smoothly was going to be a challenge, but I was confident in my ability to complete the job successfully. When the fit was so bad, I ended up breaking the cast iron table that sits in front of the disc sander while trying a little too hard to force it to fit correctly. When I called, they informed me that the tables were currently out of stock and would be back in stock in approximately 5 days. Two weeks later, the table was delivered, and I was once again confronted with the same dilemma. To accommodate the table, a small error was made in the drilling and taping of the hole. In order to avoid having to wait any longer, I decided to use my dremel tool to modify the cast table so that it would actually fit in the space where it belonged. Once I got it to fit, I discovered that the locking arm that came with it didn’t fit properly, which prevented the table from being securely locked in place once it was in place. I decided to use a bolt in place of the locking arm once more because I didn’t want to cause any more unnecessary delays. Although the bolt I used worked, it also meant that repositioning the table would now necessitate the use of a wrench rather than a lever, which would have made adjustments much easier. There were many, many more minor issues with getting the parts to align in order to get it to work properly that needed to be addressed. A person who despises Americans must have placed the fasteners that need to be loosening and tightening in their proper positions. It’s comparable to removing the engine from a car in order to access the oil filter. Please allow me to state unequivocally that unless you have an excessive amount of mechanical abilities, are extremely patient, and have a shop full of other tools to rebuild this one in order to make it work properly, you should strongly consider purchasing something else. In the event that you do decide to purchase one of these, I wish you the best of luck!
