Because it came with a defective gasket, I only gave it three stars.
I purchased mine on June 7, 2013, and, if my recollection serves me correctly, it had a gasket leak right out of the box. The nail driver worked well enough to drive a couple of shorter nails into the base of my mailbox stand, but it wasn’t up to the task of driving larger nails at all.
Instead of throwing it away, I dismantled it and attempted to reassemble it, but the gasket leak persisted. I made the decision to order a couple of new gaskets from eReplacementParts.com, and it took several months for those to be delivered. When they finally arrived (on today’s date, July 31, 2014), I replaced the gasket, but air continued to leak through—a disappointment.
Looking a little closer, however, I discovered that the leak was not coming from the gasket, but rather from the rear-side air vents instead (i.e., from the inner parts themseleves). I suspected that I was the source of the problem because I had the nailer attached to the pressure hose before turning on the compressor and didn’t know what position the valve was in when I reassembled the system.
I decided to experiment with leaving the nailer disconnected until the compressor was completely depleted just for “fun. This time, the high pressure applied to the nailer as soon as the hose was attached caused the internal valve to slam shut, effectively ending the leakage once and for all. As others have pointed out, it’s possible that a firm slap on the back is all that’s needed to close that valve. To see if this is the case, try leaving the nailer unattached to its hose until the compressor has reached full pressure, then reconnecting it. It’s possible that it will work.
