My Stihl bar does not have the holes to grease it but i try to force some in buy filling the bar tip with grease. Sigidi , several on another website have said that the reason for not greasing the sprocket tip is because the grease attracts dirt. Most of my cutting is not plunging or bar buried so I would expect one low pressure area to be the grease hole which is effectively vented to atmosphere when the tip is exposed and the sprocket is rotating.
I used to grease then I quit when I put on a new bar. I usually wear out a bar a year on my Husky 350 GB or Husky, never have worn out one my ES ot Titanium bars. The Stihl ES bars and the GB Titanium bars don’t even have a grease hole.
I dribble some bar oil onto the nose of the bar, while turning the sprocket with my fingers every time I dress the rails on the bar. I’ve never had a sprocket fail and I have cut a chitload of wood over the years. Like others have said in this thread, that bearing in the sprocket gets oil from the bar while cutting too.
