I’m with you Jacob too, honing is not for chainsaw cylinders at all… but what i always learnt is never hone a cylinder because of the thin wall of crome or nikasil that the cylinder has. I’m with some members on here if you can hone a oem cylinder just a little to get the aluminum transfer off and not mess up the cylinder then i would give it a try. I was tought if it’s scored just replace it with a used cylinder and a new piston and rings.
It’s unlikely the cylinder is egg shaped because the coating on the cylinder is so thin, it would wear through before it actually became out of round. If you have an old cylinder around you can take a ball hone and see how long it takes to start wearing the plating off the down wind side of the ports and transfers. The cylinder coating is only a couple thousands thick and never seen a cylinder go out of round.
