Designed for all-around use, the Husqvarna Fs 400 is a tough and convenient all-around floor saw that is ideal for any floor sawing job. The adjustable handle ensures that there are no vibrations and that the working position is ergonomic. Additionally, excellent stability while sawing is ensured by perfect weight distribution.
One year later, and a critical design flaw has ruined what could have been a fantastic saw.
The hand-crank wheel that connects to a screw jack is the component that controls how the blade raises and lowers. Unfortunately, the screw’s threads are left exposed to the elements, which is a problem. This is a significant design issue for a floor saw that relies on water to cool itself. After one year of being exposed to moisture and humidity, it has completely seized up and become immobile in its position. And, yes, this saw is well-maintained, with the screw greased according to the manufacturer’s specifications. This could most likely have been avoided if the screw had been contained in a simple plastic sleeve instead.
To make matters worse, the saw has now reached the end of its warranty period, and I am awaiting a replacement part. It has been SIX WEEKS since the part was ordered from the manufacturer, and it is still on backorder. For me, this is extremely telling because it indicates that I am not the only one who has had issues with this part and its design.
I could have purchased a completely new saw for the price of the out-of-warranty repair plus the cost of rentals had I spent the money I saved.
