They seemed to be contradictory, so I’ll lay out the facts and what I saw with this gun (the 3/8 drive 15 max). First of all, the gun is made in China, which isn’t the case with most IR products. However, the quality, construction, and feel of the gun are the same as my other IR tools that are made in the United States. You can send your gun back to Amazon and get a new one if it leaks at all; it’s broken. My test is done with a 3/8″ x 50′ rubber line with no leaks and 1/4″ NPT V-type air fittings. 3 hp, 30 gallon compressor running at 100 psi in the line with 100 psi in the lin. It was already oiled when I took it out of the box. I used standard air tool oil to do this. A torque wrench was used to tighten the lug nuts on my truck so I could figure out how much breakaway torque this gun could handle. Clean, rust-free, dry threads and 3/4″ hex nuts make the lug nuts. In this case, I used a 3/8″ deep impact socket with a 3/4″ drive and no extension. I found that the maximum breakaway torque for this gun was between 154 and 160 ft lbs on that size of lug nut. When I tried to loosen bolts that were torqued to 160 lb ft, it would not loosen them. When it was torqued to 150 lb ft, it always loosen. 50/50: 155 lb ft is 50/50. Between 120 and 130 ft lbs of torque were used to tighten the lugs until the gun stopped moving. To be honest, you might think that’s not even close to the torque the manufacturer says it has. Manufacturer torque ratings are always some made up number in a specific test to make the gun work as well as possible, with no real standard. You can either say this: This is more than enough torque for most real-world applications such as working on brakes and under the hood. This isn’t your main gun by any means, but it’s a great tool for getting into tight places. Because it’s an IR tool, it’s also very cheap. It costs only about $30 more than the Harbor Freight Earthquake. Whether or not I’m a fan of the brand, I think it’s a no-brainer for me to buy this. There might be a quake for 10 years, but IR will live longer.
