People don’t do this because of mechanics, for sur. This is a death trap. Safety doesn’t come with this thing. It’s called a throttle, but it’s just an on/off switch. You can’t change the speed. It turns out that when you go to change bits and the lever hits you, your chuck goes flying. He did the same thing when he took it from me and cut a piece of skin from his hand. The lever is in a bad place on the back (putting it in the front would give it a lower profile and probably prevent the flying chuck mishaps).
As I said before, there is no way to change the speed. It’s either turned on or off. I hope your hands stay steady.
The reverse button has to be held down while you push the lever, which takes two hands. Your pinky finger might be able to hit it while you press the lever and line up your drill at the same time, but you shouldn’t have to juggle your tools while drilling something that should be done with care.
The only thing that is good about it is that it works. In other words, I would have thought about replacing it, but I don’t use it that often.
