If you want to quickly change the retainer on your. 401 Shank Chisels, this is the one from Ingersoll Rand. It works with the IR Hammer models 121 and 132.
Almost any maintenance air hammer will work with the Ingersoll Rand 9512 Quick Change Retainer. This includes ours and those made by our competitors, too.
I’ve had an IR pneumatic hammer for a long time, and it’s worked well for that time. Then, recently, the retainer (coil spring) came off. This is what happened. To break through a concrete block wall, I used the tool to hit it with a hamme. With out the retainer, when I cut through the wall, the chisel would fly through the air and hit the other side of the room. I looked on the internet and at local stores, but I didn’t find anything. No longer available: IR said “no longer available,” and other reviews said the retainers on other sites didn’t work with my tool (mod #121). Then, this one came up. On another hammer, I had used this type before. I thought it was a lot better than the coil spring type. Ingersoll Rand made it, and it’s very strong and fits perfectly. It was a good thing that I didn’t have to throw the baby out with the bath water. Before the retainer broke, I didn’t have as good a tool as I do now.
