You can use this plunge base with both the Makita cordless router (XTR01) and the corded palm router (XTR02) (RT0701). The base is strong and has a lot of features, like a lot of controls. Everything is easy to use and is in a good place for when you need it. It’s very easy to hold on to the side handles because they are soft and ergonomic. During a cut, the lever that allows the blade to plunge down and then lock the base in place is meant to be used with your left thumb. It can be a little hard to reach with your left thumb in certain positions, but that’s the price you pay for having a small base. There is a chance that the side of my thumb will touch the body when I try to reach the locking lever when I’m working on a table that’s more than 30″ high. A little bit of the body feels like it’s in the way when the lever is being used, but only once in a while. It’s not a big deal. When you plunge, the action isn’t very hard, but there’s enough to give you a good sense of where you’re going with the plunge. The main depth stop has a quick release button that lets you quickly change the depth. When the button is released and the stop is in place, it can be moved even more precisely by turning it left or right. When you turn it to make a precise adjustment, the threads are very small. This makes it easy to make very small and very precise depth changes. 3 different levels make it easy to quickly change the depth stop’s pre-set stops. There are three ways it can be moved: easily, quickly, and securely. It stays in each of these three places until the next time it needs to be moved. There are three different types of contact points that can be changed with a Phillips #2 driver. Keep all of them at the factory settings, and then use the depth stop to fine-tune the level of the water. Overall, this is a very good plunge base. It’s good for people who do this for a living.
