My Makita 9564PC angle grinder is corded, but I also have the similar Makita BGA452 cordless angle grinder, which is cordless. As a homeowner and do-it-yourselfer, I purchased the cordless model first, primarily for use as a cutoff device. However, after discovering that it was far more useful than I had anticipated, I decided to purchase the corded version as well. And I discovered that the CORDLESS model has a tendency to shut down when overloaded, possibly due to its low power (approximately 3 amps) or my unsteady hand, and that its small on/off switch is more difficult to operate.
The convenient paddle switch and increased power (13 amps) of the CORDED model make jobs much easier than they would be with the cordless model, and it is my personal preferred model. These two power tools are nearly identical in weight and size, with the exception of the corded model, which is slightly longer. They also have the same arbor and cutting wheels (5/8-inch) sizes (4.5-inch).
When it comes to serious use, the corded model is the best option. It is possible that you will require a model with larger diameter grinding/cutoff wheels if your work is even more demanding. It is recommended that you purchase one of the newer Makita cordless models that use the newer Star Protection batteries if you decide to go with a cordless model.
