This grinder, which I was using to grind out old welds on a piece of equipment I was repairing, failed after only three days of moderately heavy use. I am a welder and fabricator, and I am hard on my grinders, but this one failed after only three days of moderately heavy use. I’ve never had any issues with Makita grinders before, and I have two of their 4 and 1/2 inch models “However, due to the way the Soft-Start electronics within it worked, this thing simply could not be used for long periods of time, and you had to wait for the wheel to come to a complete stop before powering it back up again. In the end, the 4 and 1/2 was used “I used the grinder I had at work for the rest of the job with no problems, despite the fact that it had been subjected to abuse for the previous 5 years. Instead, I purchased a Metabo, and I have had no problems since.
