This is an outstanding hammer drill. My research was extensive, and I even experimented with two other brands before settling on this particular one. It has a lot of power and the right features to make it simple to use. I like it a lot. Aside from the fact that Makita is a well-known brand with high-quality products, there are two aspects of this hammer drill that I particularly appreciate. The trigger lock is the first step. I used a different brand of hammer drill that did not have a trigger lock to pull up tile in a 40 square foot bathroom that was on the small side. I was sore for several days after finishing because my trigger fingers (yes, I had to use multiple fingers to keep going) were sore after finishing. I vowed to myself that I would never again use a hammer drill without a trigger lock. The second dial is for the drill/hammer. Another hammer drill that I used on the same tile demo project had the dial on the left side of the body, which was exactly where I wanted to put my hand to hold the drill when not using the detachable side handle when using the drill. After a while, the dial would be gradually pushed out of lock position, allowing the chisel to rotate, necessitating my stopping, repositioning the chisel, turning the dial back to lock, and continuing to work until it happened again. Because the dial is located at the bottom of the body, it is out of the way for users of both right and left handed orientations. Overall, this is something I would strongly recommend to anyone.
