About eight months ago, I bought this tool. If you’ve read my other reviews, you’ll know that I’m a Makita fan. That might make me a little more excited about their tools.

I bought this router so that I could cut holes in cabinets for things like outlets and so on. For this, it works like a charm. In the past, I have used it to cut out can lights and boxes in the shiplap we put on the ceiling. It worked very well again.

Even with the battery, the tool is very light weight, even though it is very small. The battery is on the top side of the tool, which makes it very stable. It has a lot of power and has been shown to last a long time with a 5.0 battery. Also, not having to be bound by a cord speeds up any task it’s used for. If you push too hard to cut faster, the bits break. You have to let the tool do its job. Our roto-zip bits are from Home Depot, and we bought them off the shelf. However, I’m not happy that it only came with one size of arbor, so I can only use the smaller bits and the bigger, heavier-duty ones are out of the question.

My guess is that most guys will be using this for drywall, and so dust management isn’t a big deal. For what I’m using this for, though, it would be nice because this thing is a mess. Cutting overhead is a very unpleasant thing to do. Dust management doesn’t seem to be an option for this, but I haven’t seen it on any other tools that are like this either.

This is a great tool that can be used for a lot of different things. It’s a workhorse that you should add to your fleet. There is no dust management and no way to change to larger style bits, so it may cost you a little more for the smaller bits that you wear out and break more often.

Definitely! I would buy this again.
