I like this machine very much. It quickly leveled my big hardwood work bench, including the end grain, without me having to do any work at all, and did it quickly. My hand plan had taken a long time, but this did the job in a short amount of time. I had a few slats that had squirrelly grain in them, and my jack plane had a hard time going over this area. It would chip out, but the Makita planer would smooth this out by taking small cuts and going slowly. This would get rid of the chip outs. That made a big difference in getting the top level.

It is light and easy to use, both on flat surfaces and on the sides. Chip exhaust only comes from one side, so if you have to go in a certain direction, like up or to the side, the chip exhaust comes right at you. It would have been nice if Makita had an elbow that would fit the exhaust port so you could direct where the dust and chips went. There is now a smaller dust hose that will fit it and that should help keep the chips from going everywhere.
