The Makita 36v dual battery 7 1/4” is a powerful tool “The circular saw is nothing short of spectacular.. It has the ability to power through almost any situation with ease.
I previously owned a Ridgid 18v brushless circular saw from the Gen5 generation, which was replaced by this Makita. When compared to this Makita 36v beast, the Ridgid is a toy for children. Cutting through heavy wet pressure treated 2x12s caused the Makita to slow down for a split second before increasing the power on demand. This feature is also available on my 36v sawzall, which I can’t recall the name of. The greater the demand placed on the tool, the more difficult it is to operate.
In an odd turn of events, I was cutting an 8-foot rip on 3/4-inch OSB when the blade got pinched, sending the saw lunging backwards several inches before it came to a stop. I always think about safety and made sure I wasn’t directly in front of the saw..make sure you don’t do the same. This saw is capable of sending itself backwards if it gets caught in something.
The Makita is significantly lighter in weight than the Ridgid, and its bevel and depth adjustment mechanisms are significantly stronger and better designed. Seeing the cut line is clear and free of sawdust, which is an important consideration.

-Light emitting diode (LED). I’m not sure why Makita didn’t include it, but it should have been obvious.
In this case, the rafter hook is used. Even though it adds weight, not having to bend over 100 times a day to set down or pick up the tool is a huge benefit.
-On the right side of the base plate, there are cut line marks. The “L” for cutting on the right side of your line is clearly defined, but a mark for cutting on the left side of your line would be extremely useful. For this situation, I try to visually maintain a space of approximately 3/16 inch “in the space between the L and my lin. It accomplishes the task, but an additional hash mark would make it more convenient.
Overall, this Makita 36v LXT X2 7 1/4-inch drill is a good buy “The circular saw is incredible in so many ways, and I would definitely purchase it again.
