Just before the feed channel enters the crimper jaws, it is crimped down a little bit further. It had been over-crimped to the point where the hog rings were unable to feed down the channel. It was necessary to file down the crimp in order to achieve reasonably smooth hog ring feeding. I understand that this is a low-volume tool, but I believe that for the price, it should be manufactured with tighter tolerances than it currently is.

In addition, there is no stop when crimping to a “perfect triangle,” so you must be careful not to over-crimp or you will end up with a squashed triangle (which might or might not be a bad thing, but it is unsightly and the material does not slide through an over-crimped hob ring).
