There is a 1/4″ Mandrel that will work with your 3 inch wheels that have a 3/8″ arbor. It can go up to 25,000 RPM with them. Die grinders with Air or Electric motors that have a 1/4″ Collet are good for this. Also works with any standard drill. Become a Grinder with your drill.
It doesn’t matter that I also have a high-speed Dremel tool with small cut-off wheels. I love these bigger and thicker cut-off wheels. Goldilocks”: They’re good for jobs that are too big for 1 inch wheels and a Dremel, but not big enough to need a circular saw. I have a lot of fish tanks in my house, and I like to come up with new ways to filter them. During my “Rube Goldberg” style plumbing projects, I use a lot of PVC pipe to make things that work. My Dremel tool and tiny cut-off wheels kept breaking, so I had to buy new blades all the time. I also spent a lot of time looking for my safety glasses, and many times we had to cut PVC pipes with a hacksaw instead. These thicker and more durable wheels never break when I cut PVC pipes, dowels, or small boards with them. My cheap Black and Decker drill can handle these cut-off wheels with ease.
