Small and light, this drill is easy to use and has a lot of power. This doesn’t really work at all. I have an older Makita that has a mechanical clutch. Even on the highest speed setting, when the screw or bolt became tight, the clutch would kick in and stop the machine from trying to turn the screw, even if it was still moving. As soon as it picks up speed, this drill screws a screw or bolt in quickly. When it’s done, though, the drill whacks violently in another direction. Even if you set the clutch to one, it still kicks. It looks like the E Clutch doesn’t have time to stop the power to the motor. And, yes, I did slow down the drill.
In order to make the clutch work, I’ve found that I can only turn the screw in about halfway. Then, I have to push on the trigger until the screw tightens. The clutch will then work as it should.
Mostly, this is a great drill, but the E Clutch really sucks. If you want torn Phillips screws and twisted Torx bits, this is the drill for you.
