Milling machine that works with a cross tabl.

I have never written a review before, but this one has been different. In my job, I own a machine shop and I’m also an engineer. I’m a little bit handy with tools, but not very good. (I’m not blowing my own horn here, but I make mistakes just like everyone else does).

To help me work in my basement, I bought this little x-y table. It looked like it was strong from the description. I saw that another reviewer said the edges were rough, but that didn’t bother me because cheap Chinese tools are often rough.

The good thing about the little table is that it’s strong, but it’s also a little heavy. It’s well-designed and, as far as I can tell, it was made correctly. The parts fit together well (more below) and work well. About a 3″x3″ trip.

The bad thing is that if you’ve ever bought small machine parts from China, you know they’re made of the lowest quality cast iron. I also have a Chinese lathe and a small mill made out of cast iron that I use. It is very soft compared to tools made in the United States. But for home use, it’s fine. I let this go. From another review, I knew I would have to take it apart to clean it up. The edges on every part were sharp and rough. I did the same.

When I got the table, it was a mess. It looked like the person who was putting things together was given a box of parts with no instructions. The Gibbs were having a lot of fun. They both shook a lot. Adjustment is all that is needed. When you turned the hand wheel, the two tables moved in the wrong direction. This was because the assembly had the leadscrews backwards. Also, one of the bearings had to be replaced because it wasn’t put in the right way. I changed all four bearings and the problem was solved.

After spending some time, this is a really nice little table that is strong and works well. It’s all good now that it has been cleaned and lubricated. I probably should have sent this back, but I knew that the next one would also need some work to clean it up. At the very least, they’d have to take apart and clean all the rough edges first. My goal was to finish the work that should have been done at the factory. Note: The x-y table is at 90 deg. A big deal because I have seen other Chinese products where the axis is not straight. This is.

Finally, everything is fine. I think it’s a great table. It might take some time to clean up before you can use it, so be aware of that.
