The 71064 bowl rest with an 8.5″ diameter curve is part of the NOVA Modular tool rest system. It is used to turn the inside of bowls. The rest of the piece has radiuses on both the top and bottom edges so that the chisels can move smoothly. It can be used in either orientation for more versatility, too.
Everything about this product worked as it should have, except for the thread cutting, which was a little weird. When I cut the thread, I made a lot of shavings. I couldn’t fully insert the post from either side. To get the threads clear, I had to use a nail. Finally, I got the thing to screw all the way in. Getting rid of it was a pain, but it could have been done as part of a manufacturing quality check. Take a look at NOVA/Teknitool and see if you can figure it out. There is a lot at stake.
