While this nailer can be used for many things, there are some drawbacks. Different nailers have different actuators that drive nails and staples into a piece of wood. This is why different nailers are needed for certain jobs. There will be more power in a framing nailer or stapler than there will be in a finish nailer. Nailers with this type of tool can drive nails that are 16 gauge and 18 gauge. The actuator must be able to drive staples, which are bigger than the other two. When you drive a small finish nail, the actuator head is about a 1/8th of an inch wide. When you drive a larger nail or staple, the actuator head will leave a 1/8th of an inch square hole. No matter what you use, staples are fine because they will cover up the bigger hole that they make. It may or may not work for you if you use 5/8th 18gauge brads. If you’re doing finish work, you may not need to fill in a huge hole for such a small nail. Everything said, the gun worked perfectly when driving all three. The fact that you don’t have to keep several different guns around is a good thing. The only two things I would say are that it makes a bigger hole and doesn’t have a tool for removing nails. This was added to the SLX31. I may still need to buy a brad nailer for jobs where I need to keep the hole size down.
