This stapler has met my requirements (mounting canvas art prints on stretcher bars) and has proven to be reliable. However, I’m concerned that it has what I believe to be a manufacturing flaw. The first of these models that I purchased was in February of 2017. It worked perfectly until November of last year, when it began to fail to shoot a staple on a regular basis or to shoot it weakly. And then it just stopped working. So I dismantled the tool and discovered that the chamber that holds the air charge had been blown open on one end by an explosion. The chamber is made of plastic, with a press-fit cap on one end to keep the contents inside. The cap came off in the wind. It didn’t even appear to be glued together at the seams. This really should be made of metal, or at the very least a more durable plastic. Everything was thrown away in the trash can. At around $42, it’s clear that this is a one-time use tool. However, I went out and purchased another of the same model. It has now been in use for a year and is still in good working order. We’ll have to wait and see how long this one lasts. I suppose if I have to replace it within two years, the $42 price is reasonable considering how much I rely on this stapler. As a side note, I also use a Porter Cable brad nailer gun, which you can find here. I recently replaced it, but it had been in service for about ten years and had seen a lot of action. It’s possible that my experience with the first stapler was an isolated incident. Maybe.
