A lot of the time, I like the Porter Cable hinge template.
To make mortises for a front door I was putting in, I used my Bosch plunge router.
As soon as I saw how cheap a ready-made one was, I thought, “Why not?”
Now, let’s move on to the part that came with it. It’s not good.
The cutting edges are likely made of cast iron.
But not really. They did fade very quickly.
So quickly that I’m not even sure it’s made of tool steel, and carbide is out of the question.
This means that it has a short lifespan.
After I opened one door, I was done with it.
The first hinge mortise turned out very well, and it looks very nice.
While the last one was a burned mess.
Consider it a thing you can eat.
All in all, I’m happy, especially at this very low, very low price.
But I think it’s better to think of this as a template-only kit, with a fun extra just for fun.
