It was March of 2008. I bought it from Amazon. Arrived, and I was excited. Then, it was very hard to get the protective coating off the fence and the table. For the fence and the table, the surface was very rough. To hold wood better, I thought. They tried to protect it from rusting with oils or something else, but it was very hard to get them out of the box. In the end, I made sure the paint wouldn’t leave stains on wood. Then, I tried to use it. Well, it was a real pain in the ass. A small piece of wood couldn’t be moved until the clamps were way back. That’s when I ran into a problem. I cleaned it so well. A rough finish on the table and fence made them start to rust. That was a lot of work. It was then that I decided to make the table and fence a little more even. My fence and table would not rust, and wood would slide more easily. Since then, I’ve found out that my machine didn’t go through the whole finishing process at the factory. I found this out by looking at some reviews on the internet. Some of the reviewers didn’t talk about how they worked on their tables or fences, but they said they might use steel wool or light emery cloth to clean them up. And going from the pictures here. You can see some milling marks on the fence but not the base. Mine were quite visible and rough to the touch. And it took a lot of work to get a semi smooth surface using roloc discs and air grinder. I wanted it over the Delta or other foreign copies. But now I look back I think I should have sent it back. I am still contemplating on completely smoothing out the table and fence. Will take some more work with the roloc discs. Or even a sander. I bought CMT cutters and they seem to do well when I use it. But I still just have that feeling when I do think of using it, I bought a bad tool. Though after 10 years of light use. It’s still working. It is showing rust in hard to clean spots. Would require major disassembly to get access to those spots. I live in the NE and only heat when I am in the shop working with propane and wood stove.
