Wood, plastics, and other nonferrous metals can be cut in a curved way with this tool. Also, this is good for carving gourds, as well. You can use this 12 volt tool to make curved cuts up to 3/8 inches wide in wood. It is a Proxxon jig saw called the STS 12/E. This 12-Volt machine is great for making curved cuts in wood, circuit boards, and non-ferrous metals up to 3/8-Inch (10mm) thick. It’s also great for making straight cuts in metal up to 3/32-Inch (2.5mm). Requires a 12V transformer that is sold separately.
I used it to cut some 1/4-inch pieces “poplar is a type of tree (within specs). While it worked, it was easy to use, but the location of the power switch and speed control isn’t great, so it’s not ideal. It didn’t work the second time I tried to use it, though. When I use Proxxon’s current line of 12V products, this isn’t the first time I’ve had problems with them. It’s my advice: If you want to buy a small jigsaw but don’t already own other Proxxon 12V tools and transformers, look for a 110V jigsaw. At the same price, you could buy one of the smaller 10.8-12V jigsaws from Bosch, Milwaukee, Craftsman, and so on. Because they aren’t as small and the scroll blades aren’t as small, they won’t die on you like this.
