I purchased this as a backup a little over a year ago. After running into a clamp earlier today, the collet on my original spindle became stuck and impossible to remove, making it impossible to repair. I thought to myself, “It’s no big deal, I’ll just put on the backup. I put it on, but it wouldn’t let me run. I received an over-voltage error message. I checked the parameters on the VFD, reset the VFD, and redid the parameters with no success. This time, I used my backup VFD, which was a nice durapulse VFD. The spindle would run, but only very slowly and in reverse, and it smoked after SECONDS. To the touch, it’s extremely hot. I double-checked and triple-checked the wiring to ensure that it was properly wired. Consistency between the BOOM connector pins and the pins 2 and 3 on the spindle were checked for continuity. That is not the case with my wiring. With the spindle removed, I expected to find some shoddy wiring at the plug, which would be a straightforward repair. The problem is that it is located further inside the spindle and doesn’t appear to be repairable. In the end, I wasted HOURS tinkering with this only to discover that they had sent me a $200 paperweight in the first place. I’m way past the return window because this was a backup system that was never meant to be in service unless it was absolutely necessary.. That situation has just gotten significantly worse. I intend to pursue a refund in the meantime, but I wanted to warn others to avoid doing business with RATTMMOTOR in the future.
