As a result, I cut a lot of stuff around the fence when I first got the saw and would have given it a 5-star rating if I had known the “secret” to making the fence perfect when I bought it.
Apparently, a large number of reviewers are unaware of two important aspects of the fence.
Although it has play while you’re moving it, when you push toward the back of the saw before locking it down, it squares up and becomes squared up.
2) The squareness of the rectangle can be adjusted. On the near side of the fence, there are four allen screws to fasten it. Loosen the screws, then insert a strip of wood into the miter slot, press the fence against the wood to make it square, and then tighten the screws. Repeat as necessary. Remember to push toward the back when you secure it to keep it square.
Is a rack and pinion fence a better alternative. Yes, but you’d have to spend more money on a different saw in order to accomplish this. However, once you understand these two facts about the fence, it becomes almost insignificant. Look on YouTube for demonstrations of how to align everything, which is well worth the time investment. What I just told you about aligning the fence doesn’t appear to be in any YouTube videos, which is a shame because not knowing this information leads to a lot of negative feedback.
