Initially, I was pleased with the results of this saw, which I purchased three months ago for occasional light cutting.
After that, the saw sawed:) very light and infrequent use for the next three months.
However, I noticed that the blade had actually moved by a sixteenth of an inch the day before. This was caused by the motor axle moving in and out of the body by a fraction of an inch.
Because of the axle movement, it was impossible to make a straight cut, even with a fence in place to serve as a guide for the blade.
I understand that this is a low-cost saw; however, given how infrequently I used it, I would have expected the saw to last at least a year at the most.
I got in touch with SkilTool customer service, and they were extremely helpful. When I called, they were more than happy to point me in the direction of a local authorized repair center where I could have the saw serviced. As a result, when I presented my defective saw to the technician in charge of warranty repairs, he informed me that “it’s not even worth it for me to repair this: it’s only a $40 saw..
Now, I understand that it is a “$40” saw, but that comment, as well as the lack of enthusiasm for repairing the unit, turned me off.
I also recognize that SkilTool has no control over that service center, so I do not believe that they are at fault for the service.
Given the length of time I’ve had the saw, the type of failure it experienced, and the infrastructure in place to deal with warranty issues, I would not recommend this saw to other potential customers for fear that they will experience the same problem I did when I purchased it.
