It was decided to purchase an additional grinder for masonry use. I had originally purchased the GWS8-45 and was dissatisfied with it due to a number of factors including the fact that it ran a little too hot. I was a little concerned that this one would have a too wide of a grip, but it’s almost perfect. Despite the fact that it is slightly larger in the grip area than the GWS8-45, it appears to be easier to hold due to the shape and textures. I also like how this one is a standard length and appears to be more balanced than the GWS8-45 in my opinion. It also has an amp rating of 8.5 amps, which is a plus.

So far, it performs as expected for an angle grinder, and I have no complaints about how it works. I’ve used it outside in high temperatures with moderate use and the heat hasn’t been an issue, but the gear box does get hot, which seems to be a common occurrence with these Bosch grinders due to the way they are configured inside the machine. With or without a new diamond blade, the spindle spins evenly and there are no abnormal vibrations. It appears that, in contrast to the switch on the GWS8-45 (which appears to be easier to accidently set off despite the fact that it appears to be a thicker in size switch), this grinder does not have that issue, except when gripping up extremely high.

The only con I can think of is that I wish the bottom cover/guard mount, which seals the spindle, gears, and other components on the inside, fit tighter around the screws or was more effectively sealed in general. With the passage of time or as the temperature rises, I have noticed that grease can slightly seep out. It is unclear what the reasoning is behind this, but it does not appear to be a significant issue.

Overall, I’m pleased with the grinder so far, and it performs exactly as I expected.
