This saw is typically used to cut 3/16-inch to 1/4-inch aluminum. I’ve owned every brand of reciprocating air saw available on the market, and they all fail when subjected to heavy use. This one is no different than the others, except that it takes a little longer to fail than some of the more expensive ones. However, I have no regrets about my purchase. Despite the fact that the product was out of warranty, SP Air has always provided courtesy repairs at no charge, which is something that most other companies will not do. I’ll cover the shipping costs to send it in. After receiving it, SP Air repairs it the next day and ships it back to you. Never down for more than 3 days at a time. At one point, the factory blade would not come out of the machine. After being used continuously for a period of two or three hours, it has locked up on me a couple of times. The cost of blades, which range between $8 and $10 per blade, is probably my biggest complaint. In general, this recip saw is a high-quality piece of equipment. SP Air admitted that they had some faulty internal parts at one point, but that they have since replaced them with better-quality replacements, which are now being used in the repairs. Conclusion: Overall, the saw performs slightly better than the competition, the price is in the middle of the range, and the company is the most reputable I’ve ever encountered.
